*Drags soapbox to center of the stage, adjust mic stand, and clears throat*
So I'm the first one up then huh? Well here we go...
Im calling out social networks and people who over use, wait, abuse them. I'm particulary talking to anyone that tries to communicate with me through them, and then proceeds to tell me to check it. I refuse to respond to a message on facebook or follow you on twitter to find out information you could just as easily tell me yourself.
So let me lay out the rule to make it clear. If you say "Check out your facebook (my twitter, myspace, blog) I sent you a message" and I say "go ahead and tell me now" and you still refer me to the social network, i'm letting you know now that I will not respond to said message.
Call me an asshole, but that only sounds fair to me. The point of social networks are to allow people to connect and share information, granted. But that does not mean that you HAVE TO COMMUNICATE exclusively through them. If I am having a conversation with you in person or on the phone, PLEASE, feel free to tell me what you need to then. I promise you that I dont check those social networks often enough or with enough vigor to respond in a timely manner. And definitely do not send time sensitive information that way, because who knows when i'll get around to checking it.
The flip side of that coin is, please please please do not send me invitations to something multiple times from multiple accounts. I swear I will delete you or block you if it continues to happen. Is it easy for me to simply delete the message when I get the little icon? Yes, very easy! But imagine if every friend of mine sends me just 2 invites a day, or 3, 4, or 10. It very quickly starts to add up and become time consuming. So while yes it would only take me a second to check a box, it would take you just as small effort not to send it to me. So please dont send something more then once, or at all if im not even going to be able to come.
I'm not against social networks in the least bit. I enjoy spending countless unproductive hours on them as much as anyone and they are a powerful tool in keeping up people that you dont get to on a regular basis. This is purely against people that abuse the priveleges of being a friend on a social network. You are on notice that you are in danger of being deleted. Take this as a warning.
